The Wisconsin Wolfpack invited 53 players to training camp, which begins next week. A major focus of the Wolfpack organization is to showcase local talent. Over half the players invited to camp attended high school in the Wisconsin and just under half went to college in the state. Nearly half the players come from Division 3 schools and another dozen have Division 1 experience.
Several players from the 2009 team, 15 to be exact, will be in camp trying to make the cut for the 2010 team. Among the returning players are the Continental Indoor Football League's leading rusher from 2009, running back Eric Donoval from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
Four wide receivers from 2009 will battle to make the 2010 team, including former Madison West standout Reggie Davis. Calvin Thomas and Marques Johnson are also back to compete for spots.
Two of the three starters from last season's offensive line are in camp. Brent Allen and Rob Gilbreath, both University of Wisconsin-Whitewater products, will compete for starting positions.
Six players return to compete for defensive positions, including former Wisconsin Badger Kurt Ware, Iowa Hawkeye Eric Zilisch, and Whitewater Warhawk Derek Brown.
"We're very excited for the start of the season," said general manager Peter Kishline. "We're ready to build on our inaugural season and bring a CIFL championship to the Madison community."
The Wolfpack went 7-5 in 2009 and qualified for the CIFL playoffs. They lost in the first round to the eventual champion Chicago Slaughter. |
